The Energy Pod Decarbonisation Research & Innovation Project.

Research and development are essential to drive innovation, improve options and inform policies and decisions. Improving evidence bases helps to inform the strategic decisions and individual policies that keep us on track to deliver emission reduction targets. Technology and supply chain innovation and smart solutions can improve performance and drive down costs, giving greater value for money and making the transition more affordable.

This exciting research and innovation project forms part of the commitment within the Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy launched in April 2022 to research, innovate and develop a solution to support the decarbonisation of heat across the existing education estate, otherwise known as ‘The Energy Pod Research and Innovation Project’.

The UK Government has legislated that we have until 2050 to make Net Zero Carbon a reality. Retrofit solutions are needed to achieve this goal because 80% of UK buildings in 2050 have already been built - including, of course, schools.

Schools contribute to approximately 2% of total UK carbon emissions
